Mongoose resto update
« on: July 09, 2010, 01:47 PM »
Bit of an update for this 87 M1. After some excellent general advice from norty40 re prep and priming, I was well pleased with the primed result. Unfortunately I wasn't so pleased with the top coat and after making a complete mess of the forks and bars, I took it to be sprayed at a local car body repair workshop. I was too peeved and embarrased to take photos and show the botched paint job, but this is how it's looking now.
As mentioned before, I want to put some earlier style decals on, but i'm struggling with the M1 seat post decal and really don't want to spend the big bucks on the bmx products ones due to this being a budget model and hopefully with a budget resto layout. Does anyone have one they could sell to me?
The only other thing i'm struggling with is the wheels, again if anyone is looking to offload a set that would suit this, let me know. Oh yes and and a white seat. I will post another update when i have the decals on.

Paddy

Looking good mate  :daumenhoch:

Good on you for having a go at the spraying ,  primer goes on quite easily , the top coat is a little harder to apply as it can be a fine line between getting enough paint on and the dreaded runs and sags  :D

Can't wait to see it finished , I do like a White goose   :daumenhoch:

I've decided to go for a set of californian decals from a member off here. I'm struggling getting an M1 seat-tube decal and don't fancy paying the prices and handling fees for a set of bmx products from america. Good luck with your build and get some photos on. Thanks but the wheels aren't for me.

Starting to take shape a bit now, although I made a real school boy error and dropped it causing a few nicks which I have tried touching up, I was gutted.
I can't decide on white or black skyways and I think i will stick to the black and silver colour scheme as per the head tube badge. Feedback on colour scheme and wheel colour would be appreciated.

Looks good  :daumenhoch:

Reckon I would go Black Tuffs myself  :-\  and personally I would have a Black seat as opposed to White , I presume your grips are being Black  ???

Taking shape though mate  :daumenhoch:

Yes was thinking black grips and seat myself. I am leaning more towards black tuffs myself. Struggling to find a suitable black chainring at the moment.

Cheers bob, it doesn't look quite as good close up with the scratches but I do like a white goose. I think I will go for the black tuffs etc. Haven't got a black chainring for sale have you?
