Rescued from the shed after 20+years
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:29 PM »
Hi all
I'm new to this forum, my first post actually.
I'v just pulled my old bmx's out of the shed with the intention of restoring them to there former glory for my 2 young sons. My father bought these for me in the mid eighties and have been rusting in the shed now for over 2 decades.
questions I have,
could anyone identify them, I know 1 is a gt and the other a rebel because of the origonal stickers
are they worth restoring or will it cost a fortune( am i just being to nostalgic for my old bikes)
I have all the parts in the shed somewhere.
I will put more pics up later
Thanks for any advice and comments reieved
JT

Bottom one looks like an akisu to me, deffo not a gt, no holes in dropouts on both rear and forks of GT race bikes, as to cost, if you intend to keep all the original parts and restore them then shouldn't be too much, if you want to go down the all new parts route might start adding up a bit ;)

Out of the two i'd keep the Rebel, the bottom one looks like a Falcon Pro,
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Keep both ... the Rebel at the top and the possible Falcon Pro below... wicked bikes but if you do a good resto they will be too good for your kids and won't stand up to the demands of the current bmx world that a new school bike would.

All the help you need you will get right here... just get ready for some offers to buy  :daumenhoch:

I'd focus on the rebel and ride it again yourself!

Possible Pro Class Rims, CW bars on the Rebel? ???
Have a look if there's anything stamped on the Black rims :daumenhoch:

Didn't rebel do their own cw style bars made from reynolds 531?

the bottom frame is the same as ive just got my hands on, and it does look like an akisu, it doesnt have to cost you a fortune just plenty of polishing, youll find all the info you need in tech and restoand if you cant find it just ask, dont let the kids anywhere near them :daumenhoch:

wow thanks for all the responses, Later on when I'm home I'll put close up pics on here if that will help, I'm quite surprised that its not a gt as my dad next to me now bought  it new from a shop in moston manchester schofields or something, but his memory is not what it used to be.
the rebel is all origonal with wheels  with lots of holes in.
the other rims are both black one is made of plastic other metal made in japan.

Plastic rim is probably a z-rim, sorry to be bearer of bad news on GT front, my dad was the GT rep in the UK for Geoff Barraclough who was the GT import man(GBGT in the old mags ;) )
