What colours did Araya 7b's originally come in ?
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:21 PM »
I know they definitely came in clear alloy and also gold and later rims like 7x also came in blue, black or red as well but not sure if these colours were definitely available on 7b's :-\

Chrome finish on the alloy rims and also black looks like it didn't come until the 7x were around so that's those ruled out for 7b's I reckon.

I have all the araya catalogues available but unfortunatley they jump from 1970 to 1980. The 1970 shows clear alloy only and the 1980 doesn't show 7b's  :( The catalogues also show 7c's as red, gold, blue or silver alloy.

Any confirmations of original colours then for 7b's ? Any advert pics ?

i'm pretty sure i've seen red, but there is no way i could confirm it was an OG finish.

Right then, so it looks like b's came in the same colours as c's then - namely...... silver alloy, gold, red, blue - no chrome, no black  :daumenhoch:

Cheers  ;)

No chrome .

Pastel painted blue were about ( I can add a pic later ) , not sure on other painted colours ? ( I'll check piccies/ref material I have later ) .

I've a NOS set in black  ;)

Rick ( Reilley1 ) , probably knows a fair bit about these  ;) .

Painted finishes hey Matt ? Hmmmmm interesting.

Can't see any reference to painted rims in the catalogues - any pics would be cool  ;)

And NOS Black ?  ??? Very interesting also - is that a painted black or anodised ?

Just seems strange that even the 7c's aren't listed as being available anodised black, unusual that they would drop a colour choice when moving to the newer rim  :-\

All good stuff - anyone else ?  :)

However, 7c's came in chrome as I had a set back in the day  :daumenhoch:

Are you sure they were alloy & chrome Marty ? No reference in any catalogues that I can see from 80 - 84  :-\

Plenty of 7c shaped steel chrome rims though.

Blue painted 7B's , subject of a US ebay auction sometime back & said to be OG finish . I've other pics of painted 7B's on bikes too , possibly restored finishes but it kinda points to the fact they were about bitd maybe .

Chrome 7C stylee but steels , I was offered these sometime back but did'nt buy .

My NOS 7B's in black , anno as far as I remember Jon ( they haven't seen the light of day in quite sometime , purchased 06/07 maybe )

How nice are those NOS black 7b's Matt  :smitten:

Original Araya paper wraps too  :coolsmiley:

Loving the colour on those - most black anodised rims are just that...BLACK - with those they look semi translucent like ano is with other colours - almost gives a "smoke" effect in the pics - I like  8)

The painted rim theory is interesting too - hmmmmmmmmm.........

Cheers Matt  :daumenhoch:

Plenty of 7c shaped steel chrome rims though.

I am sure they were alloy; they came with blue ACS hubs but they got stolen with the rest of my bike only a couple of months after I got them.
