New/Old School Kuwahara 2KZ Pro... with pics
« on: June 17, 2010, 03:36 PM »
I've been wanting an 'everyday' bike to ride so my DP stays peachy... had a few bits lying around so I thought I would use my broken collar bone 'downtime' to get a frame and build it up from there.

All the advice I got said 'buy a cheap complete' ( cheers James & Pete ) but they kept going for more than the budget of £150 I had set myself, and it would have needed loads changing to get my colour scheme going, so I decided to just get a frame.

I ended up setting my heart on a grey KUWAHARA 2KZ SERIES PRO from ebay and managed to pick one up for £37.78! RESULT!  :daumenhoch:

Being 'old school' I wanted it to look 'old school' and, for me, the first BMXs I ever saw 'in the flesh' were 2 Burners, one blue, one red, both with yellow tyres, I've always wanted yellow tyres... and yellow & grey rocks!

I've got most of it together, grips and tyres arrived this morning so gotta get them on tonight and take some pics ...its a collection of old, mid & new but looks how I wanted... so I'm very happy. I need to get some different forks as I'm making do with the ones off a Specialised Vegas ( the ebay description said they were S&M forks...grrrrr ) but what I've got will do for now :-)

Big thanks to:
- James 'HeywoodBMXVoivod' for the help, advice on the BB & crank and all the bits hes flowed me.
- Marc 'kuwahero' for seatpost, chainring, seat clamp and advice
- Steve 'Firebird' for the yellow seat thats on the way to finish it off perfectly.
- Steven La Costa Nostra for the GT bars that now have a great home.
- Justin @ Porkchop for tyres, donuts & grips.

Too dark for a decent pic... need that yellow seat and an alloy seat post & forks. Beefy forks look a bit wrong with the skinnier tyres... I can sort that  :daumenhoch: coming along though

----------------------------------------------------------------

Right... nearly finished this now. Sprayed the seat post and stripped the forks / got a bigger chainring and lost the silver link out of the chain / routed the cable through the cable guides.

Need to :
- take the pegs off as it will fuk the frame ( says the sage Voivod )
- get a yellow seat off Firebird Steve
- spray the forks grey - bare metal is too dark to match the crank
- get some more bars of some sort... need these on my DP so I can ride it again.
- put the right kind of headset in

SO tempted to try some kind of swap with Spesh for his Haro... LOVE THAT BIKE

more pics...

yes indeed - whats the point in finding some original yellow CompIIIs and riding them everyday at the price they'd be?

If it was for show I'd 'go the distance' but its rider. I'm not feeling any of new school tyres with no walls and these were cheap.

Works for me  :daumenhoch:

well I thought about the ones that Stodgy has and I tried some black tyres that James Voivod HeywoodBx gave me ( see below ) and I wasn't too into it. I had a look through all the Kuwies in the museum and yellow tyres felt good.

Went to docs Monday and according to him it hasn't healed yet... but its not hurting... and I have a new bike  >:D GOTTA RIDE.

I've been trying to shape the verge at the end of my garden wall into a mini berm. Other peeps on the street can't work out why I keep mowing the same bit of verge and stamping on it  :LolLolLolLol:

Cranks were a bargain as well - nearly got the ones you said from BMXcity then James showed me these Race Face ones from CRC - about £45 I think with BB and 36T chainring - got a 44t to go on from Marc for £12... BUGDET BIKE!

Looking good Ed, I agree with you on the tyres, seems a waste of cash to put expensive ones on a rider.

Get a yellow touch up for the split link though, or a chain tool!

The colour way is so `grey sta-press trousers and yellow Le Shark polo shirt' eighties,  (don't forget the grey side tie shoes!!)

Is this going to Lest'air?

Alright Mark

I've got a chain tool and I knew I was going to get a 44t chainring so its just 'on' so I could ride it. I'm gonna sort the chainring tonight... and the missing link  :daumenhoch:

just brought some primer to spray the forks and seatpost - not sure whether to stick with grey primer or spray chrome - will give both a go - need to minimise the black now though.

80s fo life  >:D

I can take it down for Lest'air night - we should get some Leicester people together down at Western Park or over at that skatepark in Fleckney which is really sweet before August - whatjareckon?  :)
