A few ideas for your new colour scheme.
« on: April 04, 2006, 10:09 PM »
Hers a quick idea for how to find colour theme for your next build.

find a bike or two in the museum, (theres loads..)

Ive always liked dordy's beats, i like the colour combo's.

now, i wanted a lavender type build, cos i have a few lavender parts, but wanted to do a cheap rebuild of an existing bike that i rode in the sea, which consequently has rusted quite a lot. so.....

take the image and chuck it in any photoshop, paint type program.

invert the whole picture.

now that gave me a lavender base, but i liked the contrast with the black, on the blue bike, so i took the best of both, and combined the two schemes.

this is the bike i wanted to re-finish...etc...

looks ok, but thats a year ago when it was first built. i robbed most of the bits of it for my TA.

So, with the rust as well it was looking a bit poorly really.

I have added the colour schemes onto this picture, this takes a bit of time to do, but is easy once you get the hang of the mask tool.

so.....all that was left to do was actually get off my ass get in the shed and get painting.
I tell you tho, powdercoat is the work of the devil...it takes ages to get off, but inspector mors will win in the end.

did a bit of a fade with the decals i made up, which again was a pain in the ass, and foil backed the image so it has silver letters and lavender shadows. Unfortunately these didnt go quite as i planned, so didnt match the frame colour, but...hey ho. also the skyways changed colour quite dramatically after a sanding, so they didnt match either, but you get the general idea....

with a bit more time spent, you can see the progression through the ideas, without having to actually paint the bike....

go and have a go.......

as it says on the tin phil, if you get the clear inkjet paper, did a fade from black to purple, then did the lettering in white, with a grey shadow, so when you peel it off the main lettering is clear, with a grey shadow.

guillotined a piece of tinfoil, so its nice and straight, stick it on to the back of the stickers, appy the decals to the frame....

problem is, the bit of tinfoil isnt stuck to the frame, so it wobbles a bit on the light, but to be fair it was my first attemept, next time i would use spray adhesive on the back of the foil, or, you can actually buy self adhesive foil paper. that has a certain thickness to it tho, so you may see it under the top decal. where as foil, is extremely thin, and has a nice brushed steel affect on one side, or shiny on the other.
