Ammaco Freestyle Pro - Year? Serial number ID? UPDATE
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:23 AM »
Hey all - my latest project is an Ammaco Freestyle Pro, which i saw for the first time a few days ago. It's the earlier one with the stamped out gusset - i believe they changed the gusset marking later on as they were prone to cracking. I am just wondering about how to date it - anybody got any clues regarding the Serial Numbers and what they represent?

Mine is:-

DSBM 40605825

It's also got two other numbers/codes, which look like postcode stampings to me (they say the same code but one is teeny-tiny, the other large).

CV37 0DF

Any help appreciated, and if anybody has any Ammaco bits and bobs going then please let me know!!! I'm looking forwards to getting this one back up and rolling...

MD

Ammaco Freestyle Pro - Year? Serial number ID? UPDATE
« Reply #2 on: February 26, 2013, 01:22 PM »
Well as you can see it has been a while since I purchased this frame but i have now managed to find the time to start the resto and rebuild.

I had been looking for ages for an Ammaco Freestyle Pro, and was well chuffed to find an early one with the stamped gusset that wasn't cracked!  ;D

Over the past couple of years i have been gathering bits and pieces for the build and now have everything except a Renthal layback, seat and hinged seatpost clamp.

Here is the frame as found:-

Following powder coating:-

Sticker set going on:-

CW bars showing the NOS padset(!) I stumbled across on eBay:-

ACS-Z Mags with white skinwalls:-

Bottema M-2 forks:-

I was unsure about leaving the Bottema's in chrome, but i am really pleased with how it looks and am glad i opted to keep them original  :)

More pics as and when I find the time to continue the build, but i think you can get a feel for how it is going to look.

BTW - still haven't managed to find any further info on the serial numbers and BB stampings so any more info much appreciated!!

Well this is an old build thread.... Finally got around to spending an hour on this today whilst cleaning up the man cave. All it needs to finish is a seatpost and seat, and looks pretty good. I'm going to refurb the pedals as they're white Hutch items and are a bit battered on the outer edges currently.

I've also researched the serial numbers; the first number is the year (so 4 means 84), and the next two digits are the month (so 06 is June).

I'll get some pics up when it's finished  8)

The Bottema's have now gone on to another (race) build buddy, and have been replaced by chrome Tange TRX items, which suit the bike well.

I've kind of gone against the grain a little bit as I was hunting for a white seat and white seatpost, but couldn't find anything that hit the spot. I've gone for a white UNI, which although is really for race definitely looks the part and is nice and lightweight like the rest of the frame. I'm well pleased with it. I was trying to avoid using a lay-back on this one, as i'll be using it as a rider more than anything else so i'm pleased with how it's all looking, and more importantly, how it feels to ride for me. Well, actually for the wife as she likes it and wants to ride it. According to her the UNI seats are 'more forgiving for ladies..... '  ^"^

Just a few cosmetic changes to tidy and then i'll post up some pics.

This is also coming together now. Just waiting to fit the chain, rear brake and seatpost clamp.

I am intending riding this one quite a bit, so i was after some nice but not mint white pedals that i wouldn't be too heartbroken about when i drop the bike. A pair of 1/2inch Hutch items came up so i went for those. Still undecided whether to tidy them up and repaint them or just leave them in survivor mode?

They're a great strong brake the 901 but never liked them as a front, the adjuster is just far too high and always fouls the frame it spun (even by accident)
