« on: April 08, 2010, 04:56 PM »
I'm sure this has been asked before so before you pipe up and make comments regarding that i've checked the stickies and nowt and i aint going through 418 pages of resto threads!

I just got a set of Hutch tyres from US that were described as Excellent Condition .. but they aint .. cant believe actually the difference in the pics he posted and the real thing!!  Anyway's i can't be arsed with all the shit sending them back so i'll be keeping them but can i do anything to turn the yellow back to any kind of white?  ???
Cheers

I used tesco value bleach, half a bottle in a mop bucket, left overnight, came up brilliant white.

They were old shopper white walls, not Hutch, but worth a go, see the picture in Chat, shed robbed, bikes gone thread.

Worth a go for 19p!

I don't remember them being that white new, and they were proper scummy yellow!

Terry, I'd avoid methods that involve soaking the walls also , it'll wash the colour out of the amber and make it all patchy and light. And ruin I'd imagine some pricey tyres. Carefully does it....

Thanks for the advice guys... i tried the bleach powder and it didn't do nothing, I only left it on for a few hours but i also thought its going to cost loads buying enough to cover 2 tyres.
So after using that i had a think about how i could make normal neat bleach into a paste ... and i mixed it with baking soda (which is a cleaner itself).  Mixed it up into a paste and put a bit on the tyre last night and left it to this morning.  It has definatly done something, the small bit i did is whiter for sure.
I'm going to cover one of the tyres in it today (as the rubber seems undamaged) and leave it for a couple of days.  I'll get some pics up comparing the two when its ready  :daumenhoch:

I left the tyre covered in the baking soda and bleach paste for a day and it had worked a bit ... but in the end i just got it in the sink with a bowl of neat thick bleach and a scrubing brush ...  :daumenhoch:

You dont think it'd take the logo of the sides though?  I cleaned some white Haro tyres once with soapy water and one wipe across the walls and the logo was almost gone!  :-\

Worked a treat, you win  ;)

I did clean some yellow label comp 3's in the bath with a nail brush and shower gel. Very muddy walls, scrub, scrub, scrub, were very delicate around the logo's but they were no more.  :(  Easily happens
