have always fancied a raw frame, so stripping & polishing one ed. you will need to clear lacquer though as well otherwise it will rust :daumenhoch:

tbh here ED your up against a hard one, i've rawed and lacqured a few frames in the past

and all fell foul the the rust creeping through, it just happens mate, it's only the frames that

are lacqured straight from manufactures seem to last longer but even those frames once chipped

start the old rusting, i recently just sprayed your brothers frame that was originally raw and fook me

it was in a bad state, real deep rust laying on the frame ???
For powder coating drop me a pm

If you get the drop out Zinc plated it will act as a Sacrifical material an prevent the frame from corroding as the Zinc will corrode well before the frame  don't lacquer the Zinc bits.  I know it is not normal, but a warm frame spayed is less lightly to corrode.

I went and built it bare but I'm gonna strip it down and give it a few coats as you suggest.

Cheers  :daumenhoch:

I rawed my sons Proper Proclaimer a few months back & heard all the hoorors of lacquer & chips in it & rust getting under it so i thought sod that, don't want all that hassle.
Being a bit of a petrol head i always use top quality cleaning ,waxing products on my car & after rawing the frame i simply used a top quality Meguairs Carnuba wax sealant on the rawed frame & so far so good. All you need do is about once a month top up the wax.
Maintainance & good house keeping IE wipe of any water etc. when you get back from riding, it's the same with chrome rims,if you don't treat them well they're done in no time.
I have also rawed bars, crank arms, seatposts using the same methods.

Cheers Calum

I built the bike up raw so the idea of a wax to finish it off sounds well good!

Is this the one...

before you laquer it give it a wipe over with strippers or solvent to get rid of any residue your hands will have left on the metal this is the worst thing for frames thats right SWEAT! when you get down to spraying make sure every in ch touched by human hands has been cleaned with solvent white spirit or summat thinners anything just stop touching the frame with hands then laquer it and laquer it and laquer it as many coats as possible for the best finish. its a hell of a lot less likely to flake or rust if the surface is clean before laquering, i have three frames to prove your mate the car sprayer he's wrong. it dont flake off.

remember with any spray job PREPARATION is way more important than anything

best of luck al.
