little spockets, talk to me
« on: April 04, 2010, 03:39 PM »
After riding in a park for the first time in 12 years last night I wanna make some changes to my bike. First being a new rear wheel and a little sprocket. So, whats gonna work for me? I wanna use my profiles still, and need a 14mm rear axle. What size sprocket and rear do I need? And is it even possible with the profiles?

u need 25 tooth sprocket and a 9 tooth rear cassette to match the usual 44-16 setup of the 90's

try to avoid 23t sprockets and 8 tooth cassettes as these tend to snap chains

they will work fine with ur profiles

Before you dive in, what frame u got? make sure you account for your brake lugs if they are on the chainstays , I.e will the chain clear the brake if you run small sprockets (if you run brake that is) :daumenhoch:
Whats the matter Kid, don't ya like clowns? Don't we make you laugh? Aint we fukkin funny?

Kev s knows the deal - i use 25 - 9 too, its spot on.  You need brakes up on the seat stays so your chain don't cut through them - You might also need a spacer with a smaller sprocket as the chain might catch on the cranks - not sure if this is a problem on profile cranks, but it was for me with primo crank using a profile sprocket.

28/10 might be better with a chainstay brake.
