I've got some bikes that are just for show ,( because of there NOS parts it'd be a shame to ruin them after theyve been kept pristine for 30 years )

I've got a N/S park bike , I used to regularly ride parks upto about 2 years ago, something I got into in early 2006 and hope to start up again .

I've 2 bikes ( 1982 and a 1992 ) for O/S racing (which I've been racing now for about 3 North regional series
, Finished overall Summer2008 3rd , Summer 2009 2nd , Winter 2010 2nd, British championships , not forgetting racing  MK08 and MK09
Love it  :4_17_5:

The thing about BMX with me is I love every aspect ,

the collecting,

the riding,

the Old stuff and the new ,,,

whether race or ramps  :smitten:

Into  all of it  for the fun  :smitten:  :)

I was a rider then a load of broken and dislocated bones and a few stitches later i became a collector for some reason.

Now i have about 10 bikes just sat doing nothing really, i took one bike out this morning dog walking but it felt so small as i've been using my Mountain bike for ages now.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Both, though collecting is something I can take or leave. Riding is where its at, for me it makes sense of having nice bikes.
I do tend to look at my all my bikes as riders and if one is not getting any I feel guilty and consider moving it on.
Injury really pisses me off but it makes my riding better when I get back on it.

I like other peoples passion for the collecting/restoring...Hoarding  ;) thats the good thing about this place, you can be with your own kind, its like rehab in many ways,

I think its hard to realise the understand collecting the old bikes

, because of the fact that they aren't just objects/ornamental,,,  and they were built to be used. ::)

But if you have a bike that is built up with parts that are mint/NOS , then why spoil the condition of it  being just like new
,as it was in the mags and bike shops you remember  :smitten:

If you want to ride a GT , T/A etc it makes sense to buy a survivor, cost less to buy too  ::)

There are other  collecting hobbies the same , where the enjoyment  you get from the simply  owning and looking at the item is enough

whether it's vintage cars , wines , watches , dolls , alot of  these collectable items go forever untouched or unused .

It's pretty simple, but obviously if you dont get it you wont do it .  :)

Agreed  :daumenhoch: Old school bikes look nice but Id never ride a show bike. Id ride a survivor but at the end of the day you cant beat NS technology.

Have no interest in new school...will watch the odd vid on here and think modern riding is great just most of the bikes are very dull visually (not all).
Not bothered about collecting either, prefer riding old school, will do one more build a us performer or another TA as a nice rider and that's me wack.
Have big admiration for collectors, unfortunately carpet queens would never survive at mine I would just have to ride them and scuff em up.

Only in the winter, dark nights for collecting, cold cellar for storing  :daumenhoch:. I take the summer off to recharge the batteries (of the cordless cutting equipment)

I tried collecting, all it did was take up far too much room, so I got shot and now just keep a couple for riding...

To me if it doesn't get used there is just no point.

x2 pretty much as sweetbeats has said. am done collecting for a bit as well. all my bikes will get a spin out at some stage although il try nothing fancy on my show bikes. seems a shame for them not to be ridden imo.

When you go to MK and walk through looking at all those carpet queens it's like being in a bike shop in 83.

i got a new school 20" and 24" that i race and also a old school 20" and 24" that i race. i'm not bothered about building up a show bike either, to me bikes should be ridden. Saying that though, none of my bikes are nos or mint, they are survivors.
