Trick Teams
« on: December 15, 2009, 05:58 PM »
Sorry Mr Stupple... The Skyway Team doesn't count  :daumenhoch:

Who out there had their own trick teams with their mates BITD? show us some pictures.

I've got some cuttings I need to scan from local papers in East Anglia... we were the Junction Cycles Trick Team aka The Fresh Freestyle Crew and we did fetes and shows for a couple of summers. Good times

I remeber dropping my steel framed quarter pipe on my dads toe and him hopping around with me saying 'are you alright Dad!' - I built wheels for it so we could tow it around - my welding wasn't the best and I remember one of the wheels dropping off on the way home once.

Crowds loved stupid stuff like framestands or putting one foot on the seat and the other in the air.. dumb... they lapped it up... or anything synchronized. And falling off was always loved

And the good old 'will he drop in.. dare he... COME ON MAKE SOME NOISE'

we used to always ask for tightly mown grass.. yeah right! football pitches mostly...

Our trick team started in around 1981/82. We called it TRT (totally rad team), and did a few summer fate's. Just a bunch of local riders, one very small trick ramp, and a hand full of very basic tricks. Sadly, I've not got any pictures of anything we did together, but we had some great times all the same.

A little while later we were approached by a rider (Gary) who asked us if we'd like to ride with him for Faze 7. We thought he was taking the p*ss, until he brought us a Faze 7 jersey each. It all took off from there......

Here's a link to a few photos of the team -

I remember the article you had in RAD when you were busking in Leicester Sq ( or somewhere ) - hamming up the cherrypickers  ;D

Freestyle wasn't big where I grew up, just me and maybe a couple of other guys, but they didn't like doing shows - as you can see below some of the spots weren't ideal but it was really great fun and the spectators always got wowed - which of course was great. I used to lug around this wooden quarterpipe that my brother and I built - it was about 6' tall and about 5' wide - it moved around a lot (especially on dirt LOL) so I seldom had the confidence to get bigger air at shows, just enough to do some tricks and the folks were happy. Often a mate of mine would come along and do the announcing - that made it a bit of a laugh - he was real funny. People were so easy to please back then...

...and yes I used my race bike with bolt-ons for freestyle - like my GT Pro above - freestyle bikes were uber rare in africa
