I remember going to Mike Vickers in Barking, and looking around the shop. Even back then I knew we were pretty poor so picked the best fully chromo bike that was cheap. They had Mongooses, supergoose etc etc.

I picked a Peugeot Black lion - pukka bike! Fully chromo, with class components too. I still remember my mum signing the credit agrement thing cos it was on HP, and her asking me if I was sure this is the one I want - god bless!

Writing this has just reeminded me how I used to go into Halfords, and mike Vickers just to look the the bikes. Do you guys remember the feeling looking at the bikes as a kid?

I still get that feeling when I look at Old Mongoose brochures, or ads in the old magazines.

Happy days.

First BMX was off a local rich kid who got a more expensive one for xmas, deal was done and he bought it round xmas day, used all my xmas money for it, was about £80 iirc, in 1993ish,  was a purple Mongoose Villain. I loved that bike, steadily upgraded it mostly by swapping / fixing and painting other kids bikes and taking parts as payments. Bent the back in the end :(

No idea where it came from but with some help from Gax managed to work out what it was:
Cycle Pro Blitz / Super Macho ;D

It might have been Dentons in Didcot or more likely from that catalogue ::)

Arragon's Cycles in Penrith - a basic black Mark II Burner.

Loved it until I raced it a few times - then my parents bought me a second hand Mongoose Cali.

A Tuff Burner from Winstanleys, took it back at least 4 times having snapped the frame for replacements under warranty, gave up after a year and got a BMX  :-X

Unsurprisingly I got my first BMX from Edwardes of Camberwell, July 81 and it was a Team Murray 340 blue and yellow with Lester mags, coaster brake etc. Broke that bike about ten times and eventually got a 'real' BMX, a Diamond back Senior Pro.
