Reflex finally finished.
« on: March 06, 2010, 01:20 PM »
I know I know it's not a top haro/skyway/hutch, but I couldn't afford one when I was a kid and I still can't. (well I could but can't justify it)

So here's my offering to the old school bmx.

Thanks to all on the forum for helping me relive my youth, and many thanks to all that have sold me parts at what I'd consider reasonable prices and not sending me crap in the post.

There aren't any "special" parts on it but good old classic ones like the skyways and laid back seat post.

Just done a bunny-hop in the avenue for old times sake  :) they seem much smaller than I remember though. ???

Anyhoo, here are a few pics. Does it qualify for the museum??

Just came back to have a stare at your bike   :coolsmiley: and its hard to fault  :smitten:

the ONLY changes I'd do ( for me   ) would be black Comp STs or Panaracer freestyle tyres and gold value caps....

  love it though

Great first build, you have to say they do build up into a nice bike  :4_17_5:.

I always remember Steve P's tidy little one with the GT Performer decals  :smitten:.

Hey thanks for all those great reponses. I certainly wasn't expecting that.  :daumenhoch:

Just to respond to this comment , you've picked up on the 2 things I did ponder over, so I'll tell you why I decided on what I put on. With regards to the tyres I did look for panaracers for a good while but a few things crossed my mind.
Firstly when I was young I don't actually remember having those sorts of tyres on any of the bikes around here. We all had knobblies on because really we just used to bomb around on our bmx's down dirt tracks, canal banks etc. There wasn't really a freestyle scene around my way so I wanted to have what I remember.
Also there was a cost involved. It took me over a year to collect all the parts. I could have just bought the 1st thing that came along and paid out a fortune. (and I was seriously tempted believe me) .Panaracers always seemed to be twice as much as I paid for these tyres, and as one of the criteria for the build was not to go mad with money the knobbly tyres came out tops.

With regards to the tyre caps, funnily enough I do have gold caps. I just wanted to add a tiny bit of colour. When I got the seat clamp it was decided. The colour matched perfectly.

I also deliberately went for silver brake lines as I knew I wanted to run it down the top of the frame. I managed to get some longer stainless screws so I could use the chrome clips to hold it with. I also wanted calipers with white lettering so they matched the white in the decals etc etc.

Right then I'm going before I get some sort of award for being anal. ;D

Thanks again guys.

F.S.
