im being drawn to the dark side (mtb,s)
« on: March 03, 2010, 11:39 AM »
for quite a while now ive been less and less interested in bmx,s as the old parts have dried up and im bored at looking at my two completed builds
ive started frequenting "retrobike" forum and thoughts of building a nice mtb have been festering in my noggin
do i need help?
will 26" wheels cut to the chase?
is suspension a good thing?

WHAT SHALL I DO !!!? :idiot2: :-\
PLEASE HELP!!!!

:) Depends what you want one for. They`ve grown quite specialised (no pun intended) but you don`t want a flimsy XC/leisure bike if you`re going dirtjumping...

You should get something single-speed with no suspension and 26 or 24" wheels.
A cruiser!

spesh decide what sort of riding u want to do, no real point in doing downhill around here as all there is to ride is queen elizabeth counrty park

maybe x country which can be fun getting covered in mud, getting lost, moderate downhill rides and its good for fitness

or if u prefer road riding look at road bikes/hybrids

see if ur work do a ride to work scheme, ours does and if we spend for example 1k we get 45% off and it comes straight out of our wages

go for it - loads of fun...  just got back from Afan in South Wales razzing down the mountain on my new baby...

2010 Santa Cruz Heckler with 150mm Travel - Fun Factor 11 Rides over/through pretty much everything and will then ride back up again....

but then back to the BMX's this weekend - theres room for all in the garage... just ride and have fun.. if your smiling its working...

Since i got my MTB i've hardly looked at BMX

MTB straight out and riding, ( i'm only a mile from decent off road riding )
no driving to tracks / parks etc

trashing through all the mud and slop you can handle  >:D

i love it
cheers Kev

i've had all, Hardtail XC, Full suss XC and full suss freeride/DH but gone full circle and have a long travel Hard tail now and love it!  great for everything, quick on the climbs and just as quick going down!  :daumenhoch:

Have a word with Mike and look at one of his Dialled Prince Albert frames  :daumenhoch:

I kept the old school vibe going with a 1991 Marin Palisades Trail (the matt grey one with fluo yellow bars and forks).  Got a Cosmic Trail fluo cross bar pad, one of those triangle frame packs and a fluo yellow speckled bottle cage.

Gets more attention than all the modern rubbish on my local trails...  :LolLolLolLol:

n.b. Modern rubbish jibe was a joke. ;)

what a load of lycra clad fags :LolLolLolLol:

i'm banned for life from retrobike :smitten:

old school mountain bikes are like old school bmx's ,

pretty to look at but shit to ride,

and tbh they're utterly and completely piss-weak.

something like this is what you need if you actually want to ride off road,

this is my current choice.......long travel fork and steel HT frame, go up or down whatever you want and light enough for all day rides as well  :daumenhoch:

you can pick up a frame new for about £150  :4_17_5:

"24 wheels are a little more nimble and handle a little quicker,
"26 wheels  cover more ground quicker and handle a touch slower,

any joy with the T1 stickers del? :LolLolLolLol:

nice on-one ther pickles, good choice sir :daumenhoch:

Get a 4X bike.  Like a big BMX but a bit more forgiving/talent compensator.
