A pig or what?
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:39 PM »
Ok so I picked up this bike off of Ebay and I want to know if its worth spending the time to strip and respray the frame.

Basically I'm trying to put a bike together for my 8 year old girl ( who I took to Boleshill track in Sheff. on her mini mtn bike with Old school Powerlite mini bars and Ame rounds! and despite the snow and mud...LOVED IT )

The main thing I wanted was a cheap lightweight bike that she could get on with. She wants it purple and orange so I'm gonna get on the rattle can and sort it ;-)

I thought this bike was gonna be an alloy frame as it was described as 'light weight' - turns out its a 2002 Specialized Vegas and its not that light.

I'm still pretty positive as it was 50 notes - has brand new Maxxis tyres, GT bars, GT Headstock, pretty decent EoE Xrims, GT pedals and thats more than I could have got for £50. The spec says it had S&M forks but I'm pretty dubious about that.

Anyway... back to the point - is it worth spending time to respray this frame... or is it a pig. If I can pick up a better. lighter frame for a reasonable amount then I'd rather do that than waste my time. Also anyone who knows about S&M...do these look like S&M forks? There's and S&M sticker one side and Cyclone one the other...

I'm prepared to catch some grief over this but I reckon I got a bikes worth of decent parts for fiddy quid... even if I need a different frame.

You need something smaller and lighter for an 8 year old...the crank length will be too long for her little legs to enjoy.

It's okay for £50, but personally I'd move it on...
