Kuwahara ET stuff
« on: February 02, 2010, 10:40 PM »
Just saw this on the museum. This guy supplied / made the bikes for the film ???
He's got loads of interesting stuff. Some cool picks of the bikes being delivered on location and early concept sketches of the bike design.
There's even shots of the decals used on the other bikes in the film.

Yes , that's Howie Cohen's site. Speilberg contacted Kuwahara in Japan. They told him to contact Howie Cohen who owns Everything Bicycles, which is the distributor in US. He sorted out all the bike stuff for the film, got 50 KZ-1's sprayed up in a variety of styles, Speilberg chose the red / white fade bike. Howie Cohen and his parents before him have been in the bike business forever and the website is all his memorabilia.

A few people know this however........

When I interviewed Brian Curtis (aka Curtis BMX) he told me that he received a phone call of Steven Spielberg way before filming started, Spielberg asked Brian to supply 50 bikes for the film and then he could have the exclusive rights to the ET bike product after !

Brian said he was too busy  :LolLolLolLol:

In all fairness Brian's bikes were all hand made and he didn't want to ruin the quality of his bikes in mass manufacture !

Not many people know that  :daumenhoch:
