want to change colour or rims to gold would  i have to remove the gold from da rims first to change the colour to red

It all depends on how the red will be going on the rims, if you are spraying them yourself or powdercoating them then the gold can stay on.  If they are to be re-anodised then the gold will need to be stripped, but the anodisers should do this.
