1980 Survivor find ( NISHIKI)
« on: January 13, 2010, 08:02 PM »
Hi chaps,

Finally picked this up tonight after a month+ of phonecalls and cancellations.

It's pretty much 100% original, only things missing at the moment are the pads ( long gone) the seatclamp although the guy that sold this to me still has it but just doesn't know where at the moment. Also a brake cable has been changed but i'm unsure which one and the grips.

It's pretty well loaded with nice parts aswell    :4_17_5:

Ukai rims
Suntour hubs
Suntour Power stem
Maxy Cross crank
KKT Lightening pedals
Elina saddle
Dia Compe F+R 890's
V bars assuming they're WIN Bars
Snakebelly tyres (knackered, hence me asking for some)

Enjoy what is probably a very rare bike  :4_17_5: :4_17_5: :4_17_5:    I've only had a brief wipe down on a few bits but i'm hoping to keep the original coat of candy and stickers as they're hardy marked. Fork stickers will have to be redone as the forks and bars look like they require a rechrome.

Long story involved with the finding of this  :LolLolLolLol:

Many thanks to Phil (Sawzall) for his superb navigation skills through the back roads of Eastleigh, a lot harder tonight on my own though  :crazy2:

Whats weird is Phil remembers this bike from when he was a nipper around Southampton.

It's a full resto on this and then proper photo's will be taken and framed for the guy i bought it off.

Hope you all like and if anybody can give me any heads up as to what the grips/pads were i'd be appreciated.

Enjoy  :daumenhoch:

It's far from mint but i know what you mean  :LolLolLolLol:

Personally i don't think i'll have too much to do to it. I'm not going to start it yet though as i have a little pit bike to do first as i want the little thing ready for MK10.

No Joff mate, hardly worth it as most of the bits are there, it just needs a really really good clean and stripping. I'm hoping to save the chrome on the forks but the bars are screwed, it maybe cheaper to look for some chrome V bars and replace them. If i can leave the original Candy red and the stickers as survivor i'll be laughing.

Nice find andy  :)

I'll need a plate for it Gaz.  :LolLolLolLol:

Up in to your attic please and dig out something nice for me.  :4_17_5:

Cheers Paul  :daumenhoch:  you won't believe how many times the collection of this bike was cancelled. I had to rearrange all my COD nights. :coolsmiley:

Hey Andy, glad you have it at last.

Obviously with this weather I have not got to mine but good news is I have a frame pad so 'we' can have something to go on to get some made.  :daumenhoch:

Nice find Andy. I think I read somewhere that those Nishikis were made by Kuwahara Japan - were they?

Here are Gaz, under the Bottom bracket mate, this one seems quite early ????

Also the Nishiki had a tiny cut out in the gusset where a Redline didn't, this should confirm if you have or haven't mate.

Hi Spen, thats next on the list mate, i've stripped it completely and i'm hoping to get the F+F and bars powdered this month. Del has already made the decals for me.
I've not started on the wheels yet though although i'm hoping for it to be finished for MK10.
