hoffman big daddy help NOW WITH PICS!!!!
« on: March 17, 2006, 04:09 PM »
have purchased a early (i think) hoffman big daddy but i don't think the forks are the originals. they don't have the bits for the screw in pegs that i've seen on others and the finish it different to the rest of the frame but knowing nothing about this bike i could be wrong. any hoffman gurus out there that could help out? will post up pics later

OK,  I stand to be corrected on this but from memory I think that all Hoffman forks had peg bosses on them; early ones were smaller I think but there all the same.

Early u.s. made frames will have slightly tattier welding and no HB stamp in the gusset. All will be 1" headset, the very earliest forks were conventional headset also. A bit later on they went to 1" Ahead which saw the introduction of the Hoffman SuperFork and stem combo which used a massive hollow bolt to secure everything down.

Thats all I can remember for the minute, hope it helps  ;)

Oh yeah, one last thing;  A lot of flatlanders don't like to use pegs on bosses as it screws with their balance as you're not riding directly on the axle, if you see what I mean... so it wouldn't surprise me at all if the forks were something other than SuperForks.  :)

I had a Big Daddy for a while. No screw-in forks, I'm pretty sure about that, and there was a HB stamp or etch on the gusset.

Yeah, no doubt.  The later ones after 95ish, were made in Taiwan to slightly higher standards and had the cool HB stamp on the gusset   :)

cheers for the help guys, got some pics here. mine has box type rear bridge and no stamp on gusset only a serial number on rear drop out which is B40114, anyone know anything about that? forks you can see in the pic have no peg mounts and no other markings as to what make they are.

cheers  :daumenhoch:
