Wheel advice

Getting some new wheels built up for the Subrosa in the new year, was going with 36 hole rims but I've been offered some 48's cheap. Whats the benefit of the 36's, is it just weight saving and are the 48's old hat now?

yeah i think it's just weight Rob........if you're a heavy rider i'd stick with 48 rear at least but thats just 17 stone me 

what 48's are they by the way?

nice      36's will be fine though Rob but if the Oddys are cheap i'd go with them

Nowt wrong with 48's but they are cheap at the mo as no one wants them, some of the new hubs on the market dont do 48's, if you ride hard and are particulary heavy on parts then 48's are probs worth having as they are stronger and stiffer, i'd go 36's if not as they are lighter.

48's a pretty good imo, you can ride soo hard and dont have to worry about parts giving in

I want some new wheels. Some of those rims with big holes in between the spokes to make them light. And magnesium hubs with ti axles. Cant remember who makes them due to several 'draught guiness'... Help me out please .

Hazard lites in a 48 will be bomb proof but they aint light despite the name

if you want 36s and have the money get em, otherwise you'll save money but you won't be 100% happy with the 48s and everytime you ride you'll be thinking about the 36s.

My bikes light enough with 48s.....don't be a slave Rob.....id save the dosh and go for the 48s. You can be as hard as you like then

I was Reading about this on bmx museum, isn't it awkward lacing them as you need different length spokes?

No offence to anyone but that is the most ridiculous obserd fookin thing I've ever heard! Apart from the scrubbing in tires debarcle

it doesnt really work, its far from simple. I have tried it many times. You have to have graduating spoke lengths cos the distance from the 36 hub holes is different to each of the 48 rim holes.

thats well and good ...... but I HAVE tried it. i even drew up the lacing patern on a CAD package to work out the best way and which holes to miss out.
It would work if you cut the spokes to different lengths ..... which I DIDNT bother doing
