Howdy pard'ner

In my humble opinionâ€¦..84 was the year freestyle really started moving forward in the industry, with 3 iconic bikes shaking things up, the Performer and then in the 2nd half of 84 came the Master and Trick Star.

Soâ€¦.for the 85 Hutch catalogue was this early spec Trick Star, when it had finally become commercially available after being pimped around the mags during the prototype stage. I guess it was pushed as their high-end freestyle entry to match the Pro Star. To me that was the classic Trick Star, when freestyle was still taking shape and before all the colours got wacky. Before potts mods, before rotors etc etc.

Anywayâ€¦.after the Pro Star, I didnâ€™t think Iâ€™d go down that route (Â£Â£) again, but it was on my mind for a couple of years to have a matching pair.

Itâ€™s pretty anal build for â€˜84 Hutch correctness, things like the early freestyle pedals, the mk 1 bars, the US made donut clamp. The tyres arenâ€™t correct for the catalogue spec, they came just a little later , but theyâ€™re the mk1 Mitsuboshi Japan made tyres , not the usual Tai ones. '84 DC cables, daft stuff like that.

I kept thinking it was my last build , I canâ€™t see that happening really, but I reckon itâ€™ll be my last Hutch. Unless something special pops up. Never say neverâ€¦

Hutch Hi-Flyer bars (mk1 ladder, ladder was just the generic name they got called)

Hutch Kashimax Aero
Hutch layback
Hutch donut clamp, US made , non stamped
Araya 7X in chrome

Shimano DX freewheel
Hutch Freestyle tyres (earlier type, made by Mitsuboshi in Japan)

Hutch Aero Speed cranks (real onesâ€¦..)
Hutch Aero Speed disc
Takagi 43T chain ring

Hutch Pro Freestyle pedals, (early ones from 84, brown bearing)

now thats how a bmx should be built, hutch where the king of bmx in the eighties and in my opinion those to bikes were the most lusted after bikes made.

as always mark its in the details and those are perfect 10/10 mark you wee welch gerbil

Mark your builds are that nice, i may be doing the first ever rep of a Rad bmx build in your Pro star.....thats the biggest compliment i can make, the trick star is just amazing, cant wait to come over an see em next year

A quick-ish reply sorry, need to crack on. Not had much rest in weeks, been ridiculous the amount of uni work they've wanted out of me. I look like a zombie at the moment, black eyes and pissing about 'til 4am every night. Spend the last day sorting the bike out though, wanted it out the way, been there for months stagnating
